It was a day like any other, except it wasn’t. The new movie “Friendsgiving” has hit the screens and it’s all anyone can talk about. It’s a comedy that follows the lives of two best friends, Abby and Molly, as they navigate through their troubled relationships, zany personalities and their tumultuous dynamic.
The plot is a classic tale of love, friendship and the chaos that ensues when you mix them together. Abby is recently single and has just moved into her new LA home. When her best friend Molly comes to visit for Thanksgiving, she brings along a whole host of characters that are sure to shake things up.
The cast is peppered with talented actors such as Malin Akerman playing the leading role of Abby, Kat Dennings as Molly and Aisha Tyler as Lauren; they bring life to their respective characters in a way that is both entertaining and relatable.
The film opens with Abby preparing for Thanksgiving dinner while Molly shows up with her new flame Jeff (Jack Donnelly), who is everything Abby isn’t looking for in a partner. The three sit down for dinner where we are introduced to an eclectic set of characters – including a life coach (Chelsea Peretti), an Instagram influencer (Christine Taylor) and even a famous musician (Ryan Hansen). All hell breaks loose when Jeff accidentally sends an inappropriate text message to his ex-girlfriend, setting off a series of events that lead to drama-filled moments throughout the entire night.
Despite its comedic elements, “Friendsgiving” doesn’t shy away from tackling serious issues such as heartbreak, loss, infidelity and self-discovery. Throughout the film we see Abby struggling to come to terms with her failed relationship while Molly grapples with commitment issues in hers.
The movie is known for its witty one-liners like “I don’t know what your deal is but please don’t murder me” which keeps audiences captivated from start to finish. The script is sharp and witty, keeping the audience on their toes as they eagerly await what’s to come next.
While some may criticize the film for being overly chaotic, it’s undeniable that “Friendsgiving” is a thoroughly enjoyable watch. Its rapid-fire pace will keep you entertained from beginning to end and the character dynamics are both hilarious and endearing.
The cast perfectly embodies their characters, with Malin Akerman playing Abby with the perfect balance of vulnerability and strength. Kat Dennings shines as Molly, displaying her natural comedic timing throughout each scene. And Aisha Tyler delivers a standout performance as Lauren – the friend who always keeps it real.
The movie isn’t without its flaws though. Critics have pointed out that certain elements of the plot could have been fleshed out more, such as Abby’s backstory or Lauren’s own personal struggles.
Filming took place in Los Angeles during November 2019 with director Nicol Paone at the helm. The production team did a great job at capturing the festive spirit of Thanksgiving while also showcasing the grittiness of LA life.
The score is vibrant and upbeat, matching perfectly with the movie’s high-energy vibe. It features tracks like “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj which adds an extra element of excitement to an already wild ride.
Upon its release, “Friendsgiving” was met with mixed reviews – some praised it for its comedic elements while others found it too chaotic. However, it quickly gained popularity on streaming services due to its relatable themes and hilarious moments.
Despite not receiving any major awards or nominations, “Friendsgiving” continues to be a fan favorite and has amassed a considerable following since its release in 2020.
In terms of cinematography, there aren’t any groundbreaking techniques used but this does not detract from the viewing experience at all. The camera work is simple, allowing the audience to focus on the characters and their interactions.
Overall, “Friendsgiving” is a fun, fast-paced movie that is perfect for a night in with friends. Its humor and heart will keep you entertained from start to finish and will leave you feeling satisfied with its sweet ending.
