As a fan of thriller movies and their eerie plot twists, I must say that Hunter’s Moon exceeded my expectations. The movie, which was released in March 2020, is directed by Michael Caissie, who also co-wrote the screenplay with his brother, Charles. The film boasts an all-star cast including Katrina Bowden, Jay Mohr, Amanda Wyss, and Thomas Jane just to name a few.
The movie tells the story of two estranged sisters who are brought together when their father passes away. Tess (Katrina Bowden) is a successful lawyer who has distanced herself from her family while her sister Claire (Jemma Dallender) stayed behind and now runs their father’s hunting lodge. When their father’s will is read, it is revealed that he has left everything to Claire and Tess must fight to get what she thinks is rightfully hers. However, something sinister is lurking in the woods surrounding the lodge.
One of the things that I loved about Hunter’s Moon was its portrayal of family dynamics. The tension between Tess and Claire felt very real and relatable. It was interesting to see how different life choices can create such distance between siblings but also how tragedy can bring them back together.
The plot twist in Hunter’s Moon caught me off guard completely. At first glance, it seemed like a typical slasher film where characters are picked off one by one by a crazed killer but as the story progresses we realize that there is something beyond human at play here. The mysterious force lurking in the woods surrounding the hunting lodge creates an ominous atmosphere that keeps you on edge throughout the entire movie.
The cinematography in Hunter’s Moon was also noteworthy with beautiful shots of the forest wilderness showcasing both its beauty and danger simultaneously. The score by Anton Sanko perfectly complemented every scene adding an additional layer of intensity to the already suspenseful plot.
One of my favorite characters in Hunter’s Moon was played by Thomas Jane. His character, a grizzled old hunter, provides the necessary exposition about the supernatural force that is picking off characters one by one. His performance was both charming and humorous while still maintaining a sense of mystery.
Jay Mohr also delivered a solid performance playing the detestable stepfather to Tess and Claire. His sleazy behavior added to the tension between the two sisters and made his inevitable demise all the more satisfying.
Overall, Hunter’s Moon is a great addition to the thriller genre. Its unique twist on supernatural horror coupled with dynamic performances from a talented cast makes it a must-watch for fans of suspenseful movies. It’s not often you come across a film that combines family drama with supernatural horror so perfectly.
