Review

If you’re a fan of slasher movies, then “Laid to Rest” is definitely a must-watch. The movie, directed by Robert Hall and released in 2009, follows the story of a young woman named The Girl (played by Bobbi Sue Luther) who wakes up in a coffin with no memory of who she is or how she got there.

The opening scenes set the tone for the rest of the movie: dark, gritty and filled with suspense. The girl quickly realizes that she’s not alone – she’s trapped in a funeral home with a madman known only as ChromeSkull (played by Nick Principe). ChromeSkull is the ultimate serial killer – he’s smart, ruthless and completely obsessed with his victims.

As the girl tries to escape, she teams up with a couple of locals – Tommy (played by Kevin Gage) and Steven (played by Sean Whalen) – but it’s clear that they’re no match for ChromeSkull. The tension builds as ChromeSkull relentlessly hunts down his prey, leaving a trail of blood and gore in his wake.

One thing that sets “Laid to Rest” apart from other slasher movies is its attention to detail. Robert Hall clearly put a lot of thought into creating both ChromeSkull and The Girl as characters. They both have distinct personalities and motivations, which makes their interactions all the more interesting.

The acting in “Laid to Rest” is also top-notch. Bobbi Sue Luther does an excellent job portraying The Girl – her fear and confusion feel real, which makes it easy for the audience to empathize with her. Nick Principe is equally impressive as ChromeSkull – he’s intimidating without being over-the-top.

But what really sets “Laid to Rest” apart is its use of practical effects. Robert Hall has a background in special effects makeup, so it’s no surprise that he went all out with the gore in this movie. The kills are brutal and realistic, which adds to the overall sense of dread.

The movie’s score is also worth mentioning. Kevin Riepl created a haunting soundtrack that perfectly complements the dark atmosphere of the film. The use of sound effects is also effective – it’s amazing how much tension can be created with just a few well-placed creaks and groans.

“Laid to Rest” was relatively unknown upon its release, but it has since gained a cult following. Its unique blend of suspense, gore and practical effects make it a standout in the slasher genre. The movie spawned two sequels – “ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2” and “ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 3” – but neither were able to capture the same magic as the original.

Overall, “Laid to Rest” is a must-watch for anyone who loves horror movies. It’s not for the faint of heart – there’s a lot of blood and guts on display – but if you can handle it, you’re in for a treat. Robert Hall’s attention to detail, combined with excellent acting and practical effects, make “Laid to Rest” one of the best slasher movies of all time.
