“Table 19” is a film about a group of misfits at a wedding. They are like odd pieces in a jigsaw puzzle, who don’t quite fit in. The bride and groom unintentionally place them at the “loser’s table.” As the night progresses, they bond over mutual awkwardness and find themselves becoming their own little family.

Table 19: A Movie That Will Make You Laugh, Cry, and Learn
Have you ever been to a wedding and felt out of place among the guests? Table 19 is the perfect movie for you. Table 19 is a romantic comedy film that follows the story of six strangers who find themselves at the “losers’ table” at a wedding reception. These six unlikely friends come together to make the best of their situation, form bonds, and learn about themselves.
The movie was directed by Jeffrey Blitz and written by Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass. The cast includes Anna Kendrick as Eloise McGarry, Lisa Kudrow as Bina Kepp, Craig Robinson as Jerry Kepp, Stephen Merchant as Walter Thimble, June Squibb as Jo Flanagan, Tony Revolori as Renzo Eckberg, Wyatt Russell as Teddy Wyman.
Eloise (Anna Kendrick) was supposed to be the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding but got demoted after breaking up with the bride’s brother (Wyatt Russell). Feeling embarrassed and unwanted at the event, she finds herself at table 19 with five other strangers who are equally unhappy about their placement.
From there on out, we see how these six characters interact with each other amidst all the chaos that ensues during a wedding reception. Eloise becomes friends with everyone despite their differences in age, personalities, professions and life experiences.
One of my favourite characters in this film is Jo Flanagan played by June Squibb. She is a feisty old lady who has had enough life experiences to not be easily surprised or intimidated. She enjoys drinking (a lot), sharing stories about her past loves and hates small talk.
Another character I grew fond of is Renzo (Tony Revolori), a high schooler who finds himself among adults at table 19. He is socially awkward but sweet-natured. His storyline is about his love life, which is, of course, complicated. His story is relatable to many young adults who are trying to figure out their love lives amidst societal pressure.
The movie has great comedic timing and jokes. It also has moments that will make you cry. The film’s message is about finding happiness outside of societal norms, making the best of your situation and learning from your experiences.
The cinematography of the film is beautiful, with shots that capture the emotions and expressions of each character perfectly. The soundtrack to the movie was composed by John Swihart and features a lot of contemporary pop songs that resonate with younger audiences.
Despite its positive reviews from critics, Table 19 did not perform well at the box office. It grossed only $5 million worldwide from a budget of $5 million. However, this does not diminish its value as a great movie with an important message.
Table 19 is perfect for anyone who loves romantic comedies with unique storylines and great characters. The film reminds us that even in our darkest moments, we can find unexpected friendships and happiness if we keep an open mind.
