Review
As a huge fan of thriller movies, I must say that “The Invisible Guardian” is one of those films that you cannot miss. Directed by Fernando González Molina, this film is an adaptation of the novel written by Dolores Redondo. It stars Marta Etura in the lead role, as Inspector Amaia Salazar.
The story takes place in the Basque Country, a region with its own language and culture located between Spain and France. The film starts with the discovery of a young girl’s body in the woods. The victim’s name is Ainhoa Elizasu, and she had been murdered. This event triggers an investigation led by Inspector Salazar, who is originally from the area.
Since Salazar has traumatic memories of her time growing up in this region, she is reluctant to come back. However, she accepts the case and starts working on it with her team members.
As they dig deeper into the case, they discover that there have been other similar murders in the area over many years. All victims were young girls who had been strangled to death in a specific way.
Salazar starts struggling with her personal demons as well as external factors such as resistance from local people who try to keep their secrets hidden from outsiders.
The plot is full of twists and turns that keep you at the edge of your seat throughout the entire movie. Salazar’s emotional journey also adds to the overall atmosphere and makes it more relatable for viewers.
The acting performances are outstanding. From Etura’s portrayal of a traumatized yet determined inspector to Elvira Mínguez’s role as Salazar’s mother who suffers from mental health issues- every cast member brings their A-game.
Moreover, “The Invisible Guardian” has stunning cinematography that captures the breathtaking landscapes of Basque Country beautifully.
One thing that stood out for me was how well researched and accurate the film portrays Basque culture. From the language to the beliefs and customs, the film does an excellent job of immersing viewers in this unique world.
The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. It also won several awards at different film festivals, including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Mínguez at the Feroz Awards.
In conclusion, “The Invisible Guardian” is a must-watch film if you are a fan of thrillers or just good cinema in general. It has a compelling storyline, outstanding acting performances, beautiful cinematography, and accurate portrayal of Basque culture which makes it stand out from other films in its genre.
