The plot centers on two families, the Feathers and the Gutshalls, who live in isolated homesteads deep amidst the rolling hills of Kentucky. Their feud dates back generations and escalates when Ludie (Rod Steiger), the patriarch of the Gutshall clan, mistakes a shipment of lumber intended for his rivals as his own. The stage is set for a high stakes showdown between both camps.
As the story unfolds, we witness forbidden passions, heart-wrenching betrayals, and heartbreaking sacrifices made by each character.
